An Art-Deco Reinvention
How WhitCo reimagined Palmichael — an award-winning Italian restaurant — into a destination of white Carrera marble and quiet luxury.
The reimagined ground-floor dining room, finished in white Carrera marble.
A complete overhaul, conceived and delivered during a 20-week lockdown closure — reconstruction, restyling and a brand-new upstairs bar.
When Palmichael closed its doors for twenty weeks, the Palmiero family saw not a crisis, but a canvas. WhitCo was invited to help envision a new and better restaurant — combining two generations of authentic Italian cooking with an entirely new sense of place.
A family legacy, reimagined
Owned and run by two generations of the Palmiero family since 1981, Palmichael had built its reputation on fine authentic Italian food and warm, friendly service — twice named Restaurant of the Year at the Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards.
The Covid closure offered a rare, uninterrupted window. The brief: rethink the entire premises without losing a moment of that heritage, and reopen with a space worthy of the food.
Design decisions, in real time
WhitCo CEO Vita Whitaker worked directly with the family to shape the vision. The design-and-build team then moved in — making design decisions in parallel with construction, resolving the inevitable snags on site as they arose.
The result: a stunning art-deco interior downstairs in white Carrera marble, complemented by a sumptuous new cocktail bar and dining area upstairs — formerly the family home.
“Our team worked incredibly hard to execute the design brief to the highest standards — creating a beautiful and amazing destination for everyone.”
